I am a Lecturer in Public Law and Human Rights at the University of Manchester. My research focuses on liberty of conscience and religious freedom; constitutionalism and constitutional review; and the theoretical foundations of human rights.
I completed a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Advanced Japanese Studies) and a Bachelor of Laws (with first class honours and the university medal) at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. After a period in legal practice, and a human rights fellowship in Tokyo, I worked as an Associate at the High Court of Australia in Canberra. I then undertook a PhD in Law at the University of Cambridge, before commencing at Manchester.
In addition to my academic work, I enjoy creative writing, photography and recording music. I won a First Five Pages genre prize at the Stockholm Writers Festival for my draft novel. My music can be heard on Spotify and other services.
